About Mauro Marchetti:

Mauro

Yes, the toddler on the picture is actually me and my dolls at the very early days of my life (more than 40 years ago!!). As you can see, I was already a vinyl doll collector. Growin' up I loved to play trying to build cardboard houses, wooden furnitures and also trying to sew dresses for the Barbie doll of my cousin. No more than 4 years ago, I becane interested again in vinyl dolls and started to collect Barbie and family dolls. At this time I have almost 100 dolls, all from the period 1960-1975, ranging from NRFB conditions to "much loved" conditions. A couple of years ago began to restore and customize dolls, learning to rerooting hair, repainting and trying to replicate the "look" of the early dolls of the Sixties. I enjoy trying to find the right fabric; when needed, I actually "paint" the fabric (as for the reproduction of the multicolor striped swimsuit of the "American Girl" Barbie® doll). The dolls I prefer to remake are the TnT (with "mod" outfits) and the new "nostalgic" repro that turns great as new bubblecuts or American Girl repros.

Carlota on Mauro:

Whenever I get a package from Italy, it’s Christmas no matter what the date is! Mauro’s work is simply incredible. My ginger swirl ponytail will put any factory original/mint Mattel PT to shame! Mauro redid one of my childhood Quick Curl Barbie® dolls into the most gorgeous raspberry flip I’ve ever laid eyes upon. My purple-and-black haired repro American Girl more than satisfies my craving for an AG, and it didn’t cost me hundreds or thousands of dollars. My favorite, next to my raspberry flip, is the “repro Midge” which was sent as a total surprise. She’s a PJ face redone as a vintage Midge on a repro body. I almost cried when I received her! My goal is to have one of every kind of vintage doll reproduced or restored by Mauro. Good thing I’m starting young.

Can you tell I’m a HUUUUUUGE Mauro fan? =)

Do be forewarned, however. Shipping to and from Italy is costly. Mauro is gaining immense popularity and, as such, has a loooooong list of people waiting for dolls, so check with Mauro on how long his current backlog is. Believe me, his work is worth the wait!
