There are many doll-related sites on the Internet. This is only a brief list of sites I visit regularly. I am particularly interested in fashion doll customization sites.
The Blackboard
(www.newblackboard.com):
My friend Bruce in California collects
Joes and action dolls. He's keen on playsets and playability, which I
love. Check out the product reviews... Bruce's toys are even
more fun than mine!
Paul David and Mikelman
(www.mikelman.com):
This is the home of Charice,
Mikelman's own fashion doll and one of my hands-down favorite dolls.
Mikelman's dolls are beautifully sculpted and spectacularly painted. In
my experience, the quality of the outfits can vary from less than mediocre
to exceptional, so you might want to buy those at a doll show instead.
Charice is bustier and more full-bodied than Barbie, which I personally
love.
David
Hammon Dolls Japan
(www.dollsjapan.com):
Jenny is a Japanese
doll by Takara. David Hammon is a reliable and delightful American
dealer for these wide-eyed darlings from across the Pacific.
Firebird's Fashion Doll
Patterns (http://firebirdarts.com/indexgd.htm)
For those seeking historical
pieces or those familiar with fantasy writer Mercedes Lackey, Firebird
offers clothing kits and patterns for Norman, Saxon, Norseman, Spanish,
and Native American dress, as well as clothing based on Ms. Lackey's
Valdemar series. These fit either 1/6th scale (Barbie, Sindy, etc.) or
1/9th scale (Breyer's Brenda or Mattel's Stacy) fashion dolls.
The United
Federation of Doll Clubs (www.ufdc.org):
Though not a member myself, I have a high regard for
the UFDC. The UFDC members I have encountered have been among the most
informed and most motivated doll collectors I have met. The "Doll News"
Magazine is an official UFDC publication.
About.Com
- Doll Collecting
(www.about.com/hobbies/collectdolls/mbody.htm):
About.com is
a Web-Oh!-pedia of sites to see. The title link takes you directly
to the Doll Collecting page of the Hobbies section. This is,
perhaps, the single greatest internet resource for doll
collectors.
