Rerooting by Mauro Marchetti
This is a method I learned by an article in Barbie Bazaar magazine written by Mrs. Connie Matsumoto. After that, with my own experience, I made some little adjustments.
Here's a list of everything you'd need:
- Small crochet-hook
- Tweezers
- Small scissors
- Long needle , best is a thin darning needle with big eye
- Polyester thread, thin and very stong
- Lot of patience :-)
Starting up:
Remove every hair from doll's head cutting down to the scalp and then
removing most of the hair from inside the head with the crochet-hook. The
left-over plugs will be easily pulled with the tweezers from outside of the
head.

Starting to reroot: 1) Put the needle eye-down on the first hole of the head (usually at the temple). Take a couple of yards of polyester thread, fold it and thread it on the needle's eye. |

2) Pull the needle until thread's out of the hole. Here's the first "eyelet" where to thread the first tuft of hair. |

3) Take a tuft of hair, thread it on the eyelet and fold it half way. |

4) Pull the polyester thread, it will drag the hair
into the hole. Warning: don't pull heavy, but be sure the hair is firmly
inside the hole. OK. Now have the first tuft rooted and need to keep on with several others, following the existing path or creating a new one. |

5) Push again the needle eye-down on the next hole. |

6) From now on, the thread forming the eyelet that secures every tuft of hair will be doubled (that means will have two parallel threads forming the eyelet). Fold the two threads forming an eyelet and thread on the needle's eye. |

7) Pull the needle out of the head: here's the second eyelet where to thread the second tuft of hair. |

8)Thread the tuft on the eyelet and fold it half way. Pull the polyester thread (from the head neck) and will drag and secure the hair inside the hole. |

9) From now on, keep on from 5) to 8) following the path on the head. Note: using the needle will help to make new holes on the vinyl head, where needed. |
10) When you have completely rooted all the head,
secure the thread: using the needle's eye, pull out of head the two
distinct polyester threads from two different, but close, holes. Knot the
threads tight together several times. Thread it on the needle's eye and
push again on the head, closer. When the two threads are inside the head
(and out of the neck) knot again together several times inside the head.
Cut the thread close to the knots... Et voila!
And now it's time to cut 'n style... of course. :-)
